Where I Work

I work as the Spiritual Development Minister at the A&M Church of Christ in College Station.  I organize our adult education ministry and community outreach efforts. . . You can visit www.amchurch.net to learn more about the congregation.

My Family and Background

I grew up in Magnolia, not far from where I live now, and I met my wife at Abilene.  We both attended ACU and our two girls are lots of fun.  .  . I am a third generation member of the Church of Christ , and I love our Christian heritage.

Things That I Love

Learning & Teaching, Team Sports – (especially Football, Basketball), Chess, Lord of the Rings, New Testament Greek (I know that’s odd – but really it’s true), Harry Potter, Food (especially good eats like Asian or Meditteranean, or Mexican cuisine)

Texts That Have Helped Me in My Spiritual Growth

Some find it hard to believe, but as a kid I would have never been caught dead reading a book.  I tried hard to avoid reading at all costs.  It made me tired.  I was restless.  I could never find a comfortable position.  I always had some excuse.

The truth is that my spiritual life has been greatly aided by reading.  There are plenty of statistical surveys that point to the truth of reading as a major factor in life change and spiritual awakenings.  So here is a list of 10 books that I have found really helpful along with the Bible:

The Bible, Robert Lupton, There’s is the Kingdom (HarperOne, 1989), Dallas Willard, Renovation of the Heart (NavPress, 2002), Mirslov Volf, Exclusion & Embrace (Abingdon, 1996), Richard Foster, Freedom of Simplicity (Harper and Row, 1980), Ronald Rohlheisser, Holy Longing (Doubleday, 1999), Henri Nouwen, In the Name of Jesus (Crossroad, 1992), Eugene Peterson, The Contemplative Pastor (Christianity Today, 1989) Glen Stassen and David Gushee, Kingdom Ethics, (InterVarsity Press, 2003),  James McClendon, Systematic Theology Vol. 2: Doctrine (Abingdon, 1994), and John Piper, Desiring God (Multnomah, Revised & Expanded 2003).
